Saltwater-Soaked and Sewn with Intention: A Conversation with Alexis, Founder of A2 Swimwear
Long before she was sketching sleek surfwear or packing neoprene scraps for upcycling, Alexis was just a Jersey girl getting bruised by surf tops that didn’t quite cut it. These days, she’s the mind, muscle, and heart behind A2 Swimwear—designing every piece with the soul of a surfer and the eye of a fashion designer. We caught up with Alexis to talk about the waves that shaped her, the why behind A2, and how she's turning surfwear into a movement of bold, functional style.
From New Jersey Shorelines to Atlantic Beach Breaks
Alexis's surf story started where many East Coasters get their first taste of saltwater stoke: “the shore.” At sixteen, she was paddling out with her dad, swapping windsurf gear for something a little more... manageable. But it wasn’t until a few years (and a big move to Australia) later that the water really called her name.
“That’s when surfing became part of my identity. I could say, ‘I am a surfer’ confidently.”
And it didn’t stop there. Back in Florida, Alexis kept paddling—literally and metaphorically—toward something more. She refined her skills, dialed in her gear, and started creating what she couldn’t find in stores: suits that stayed put, felt good, and looked incredible.
Designing for the Water, Powered by Passion
As both a surfer and a fashion designer, Alexis brings a rare dual perspective to her creations. Each suit begins with aesthetic inspiration, but it doesn’t stop there.
“I put a great suit down on paper... then I think, ‘Okay, how do I change this to work for surf?’”
She troubleshoots every detail—testing each design herself (and with the help of her crew of trusted surf girls) to make sure every piece can ride out a session with style and security.
Her favorites? The Annika Top and Ana Top, paired with Isla-2-Tone Bottoms. Whether it’s a mellow paddle or facing down 8-foot whitewater walls, Alexis has a suit for it. And chances are, she’s worn it through just about everything.
Why A2? Because Other Suits Weren’t Cutting It
A2 was born from frustration—and vision. The options out there just weren’t good enough. Knot bruises, slipping straps, chafing bottoms... Alexis had seen (and worn) it all.
“The entire premise of A2 has been to create something that is comfortable, fashionable, and that actually works.”
What started as a personal project quickly grew into something bigger. A2 Swimwear is now a handmade, made-to-order brand rooted in sustainability and functionality—designed by a surfer, for surfers and water lovers everywhere.
Sustainability: Not a Buzzword, a Blueprint
From upcycling neoprene scraps with Suga, to using Yulex and other responsible fabrics, Alexis is constantly pushing A2 toward more thoughtful practices. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about progress.
“We’re small and have a long way to go, but we’re taking steps toward a more sustainable industry. Every choice we make today has an impact on the world of tomorrow.”
That also means creating pieces that last. A2 designs are made with timelessness in mind—meant to be worn, re-worn, and surfed in for seasons to come.
Confidence in a Suit, Boldness in a Brand
At its heart, A2 is about helping people feel amazing in their skin and their suit. Whether you’re riding waves or lounging poolside, Alexis wants you to feel empowered.
“I want people to feel confident and luxurious in A2. Like a million bucks.”
And there’s more on the horizon. A2 is gearing up for future collections that do more than just look good—they give back to the waters we love. From reef restoration to turtle conservation, Alexis’s next wave is all about deeper impact.
Whether you're a seasoned surfer or someone who simply loves a damn good suit, A2 Swimwear has something for you: thoughtful design, rooted in function, and made with love for the ocean.
Be bold. Stay salty. And keep an eye out for what Alexis is stitching up next.
